About Dakshina

***About Dakshina***

In Indian tradition, Dakshina is the act of expressing gratitude to a teacher.

It differs from typical donations or free classes.

It is customary to give Dakshina after the class ends.

The Vedas teach that one's heart can only grow by giving and contributing to society to the fullest extent, rather than constantly taking external things to fill a void or feeling unfulfilled.

Dakshina is an act in which the student expresses their utmost attitude and contribution to the teacher through money.

By giving with the value and contribution usually paid, one fosters spiritual growth.

Understanding the teachings depends on how much the student can cultivate their own heart.

Sacred learning is also called Puja (ritual), where "knowledge" is bestowed from the teacher.

Dakshina is part of this Puja (ritual), and only after performing Dakshina is the "receiving of teachings" complete.

It is also an "act" to cultivate an open mind that can receive and understand the knowledge that reveals the truth of this world.

"Actions" inevitably produce results. Pure intentions bring pure results in return.

In the law of karma, performing Dakshina is also an act of accumulating Punya (virtue).

In the traditions of Indian learning, Dakshina promotes inner growth.

The lives of Sannyasins (priests) who dedicate their lives to knowledge and bestow upon us knowledge and good fortune,

and the lives of Vedic priests are still protected by Dakshina.

May you not miss this opportunity.

And may your daily life be filled with blessings.

*Excerpt from Pu. Swamiji’s talk*
27th March 2026
Why there is neeed of Sanatana Wisdom Upaniṣad in this time ?
There is a need for Sanātana Dharma wisdom through the Upaniṣad because it addresses a pain that many people carry quietly today. People live under pressure to prove themselves. Work, comparison, and constant evaluation can make the mind feel it must earn its worth again and again. That creates a steady feeling of inadequacy. Even when life is outwardly fine, the inner sense of being incomplete remains.
Along with this, many people carry guilt. Sometimes it comes from omission, meaning not doing what one felt was right. Sometimes it comes from commission, meaning doing what one knew was not aligned with Dharma (right order). This guilt sits inside as a weight. It can keep the mind stuck in replay and self-judgment. It can reduce confidence and inner ease.
Upaniṣad belongs to the Jñāna Kāṇḍa (knowledge portion) of the Veda. Its purpose is to give clarity about Ātman (Self) and Brahman (limitless reality). This clarity matters because it reveals a deeper truth. Duḥkha (sorrow) is not your Svarūp (essential nature). It is an experience that comes and goes. When you stop taking sorrow as identity, the mind begins to breathe again. Life still brings challenges, yet you are no longer defined by them.
This is why Upaniṣad is needed. It does not merely offer comfort. It gives a way of seeing that reduces the pressure to prove, loosens the grip of inadequacy, and helps you relate to guilt with responsibility and clarity. It points toward a steadiness that is rooted in what you are, not in what you manage to achieve.
